Enrique Martinez, president of the National Energy Commission (CNE) and Serge Gharibian president of US company WCG Energy, have signed an agreement to develop a solar panel project with 50 Megawatt capacity in Mata Palma, Monte Plata province.
The project is expected to cost US$180 million and should begin the first phase of construction in April this year, leading to the creation of an estimated 600 jobs.
It is thought that this system will generate around 105 million kilowatts of electricity a year to homes in Monte Plata and other areas in the east of the country,
As reported in Diario Libre, Gharibian said that they are also designing the second phase of the project with a capacity of 70 megawatts in the same area, which he hopes will begin construction at the beginning of 2014.
