The Cardinal gives his opinion

Speaking yesterday, Wednesday 16 January, Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez expressed his disagreement with a proposal for the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) to report to the Public Prosecution office, saying that that they currently report directly to the President of the Republic and that is the way it should stay, as reported in Listin Diario.

He is quoted as saying that in the last few months the institution has taken a few heavy blows that have caused reactions in some areas, and that maybe this has upset General Rolando Rosado Mateo.

On another matter he said that there should be agreement and unity within the PRD, saying that was the only way to have a healthy and legitimate opposition and that he hoped that the current situation could be resolved, and that no one wanted to see the type of confrontation, conflict and violence that had been seen within the party.

In response to Hipolito Mejia’s statement that he would call on the masses for support, the Cardinal said that the country did not need that type of action and he should be careful about what he said.

He pointed out that if the leaders of the party could not agree then they should look for other people to help with their disagreements.

Lopez Rodriguez finished by saying that he disagreed with the proposed new tax to pay for the 911 emergency line on the grounds that there were already enough taxes in place.
