President Danilo Medina is scheduled to travel to Chile on Monday, 26 January to take part in the EU-LAC Business Summit and the EU-LAC Summit of heads of state and heads of government in Santiago. He will leave after attending the opening of the Duarte Bicentenary activities. This year the Dominican Republic celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of founding father Juan Pablo Duarte.
The summits are held every two years and bring together business leaders, individuals and business institutions from Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union. Leaders from 61 countries are expected to attend the event.
