Management and Labor in new salary struggle

The bell has sounded for a new round of salary talks between the management sector and labor representatives and is it clear from the start that management will not accept any more than a 20% increase to the minimum wage. In the meantime, the representatives of the labor sector are talking about wage increases in the order of 30%, as required by the effects of inflation and the recent tax increases. Rafael Abreu, one of the labor representatives, believes that there is not much hope for a general wage increase since the Labor Code only allows the National Salaries Committee to deal with the minimum wage. Even so, Abreu said that if the lowest salaries are increased by 30%, people earning higher salaries could also receive some wage increases. His concern is that workers whose salaries are low, but above the minimum levels, are left out in the cold.
