Dario Contreras ICU without ventilators

Julio Cesar Garcia Cruceta, General Secretary of the National Nurses Union, (Sinatrae), has complained that four patients died over the weekend in the Neuro Surgery Intensive Care Unit at Dario Contreras hospital in Santo Domingo due to lack of equipment such as ventilators and vital sign monitors, as reported in El Nacional. The deceased included Jarry Rafael Santos Rodriguez, Omar Alfredo Luna and Manolo Lopez, who was 18 years old and his mother had tried in vain to ventilate him manually due to the lack of equipment.

Garcia Cruceta said that the nurses and the doctors who work in the Unit had reported that most of the ventilators were broken more than two months ago n in fact only one is working and that is in a poor condition.

He said that the management at the hospital and the nurses department have not listened to them and meanwhile patients are dying due to the lack of equipment.
