PRD Committee invalidates expulsions

Yesterday, Tuesday 22 January, the PRD Political Committee declared the expulsions of former President Hipolito Mejia and party operations president Andres Bautista to be invalid, as well as the two-year suspensions imposed on general secretary Orlando Jorge Mera and organizational secretary Geanilda Vasquez.

They also called a meeting of the National Executive Committee (CEN) for 3 February and proposed that the convention during which new officers would be appointed should be held on 21 July. Outside the meeting, members burned posters of party president Miguel Vargas Maldonado and Sobeida Felix Morel, the convicted girlfriend of the Puerto Rican drug trafficker Jose Figueroa Agosto who, she said, gave Vargas Maldonado money and a vehicle, as reported in Listin Diario.
