Fuel consumption increases

Despite the economic crisis affecting Dominicans, their consumption of fuel increased by 2.9% in 2012 over the previous year, an additional 36.5 million gallons.

The reasons for the increase include an aging population of vehicles and an aging energy system.

The most heavily used fuel is Liquid Petroleum Gas, used in homes, vehicles and industry and there was also growth in the consumption of aviation fuel.

However there was a decrease in the amount of diesel and regular gasoline used.
