Accountants favor audits to JCE

The president of the Institute of Authorized Public Accountants (ICPARD) Pedro Matos believes that the Controller General Office should audit the Central Electoral Board’s accounts. The JCE says that only the Chamber of Accounts, the national auditing body, can audit them. Matos said that the Chamber of Accounts can carry out external audits to the JCE, but the previous controls should be carried out by the Controller General Office as with other government institutions, as reported in Hoy. The Controller Office has established a centralized department for public procurement, Contrataciones Publicas, to supervise government purchases.

Matos made the comment after signing an agreement with the National Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Companies (Codopyme) whereby ICPARD specialists will advise and train businesspeople on accounting matters, including budgeting, marketing strategies, feasibility studies and other matters of interest.
