The president of the Young Entrepreneurs Association (ANJE), Frank Elias Rainieri Kuret is arguing for the need to establish public policies that push for the creation of new businesses and facilitate entrepreneurialism in the Dominican Republic. He noted that ANJE believes that a complex tax system, the difficulty in accessing credit, the rigidity of labor laws, the lack of education of the labor force, administrative corruption and inefficiency at government level as well as crime rates are obstacles to starting new business in the Dominican Republic.
According to ANJE, the country needs to implement additional measures aimed at the creation of new businesses that generate more jobs and opportunities for social inclusion for the people, especially the young where unemployment rates are nearly 30% for people between the ages of 18 and 24. He noted that the results of Doing Business 2013 published by the World Bank and which covers 185 countries, show that the DR needs to improve: It is 116th in ease of doing business, 156th in handling cases of insolvency or bankruptcy, and 122nd in the process of obtaining electricity service. In addition the total tax rate as a percentage of earnings reaches 42.5%, the highest among competitors in the region.
