Fire in Santiago

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 29 April, a blaze reduced Provisiones del Oriente, a store owned by several Lebanese brothers, to ashes in Jacagua al Medio in the north of Santiago.

Colonel Ricardo Rosario, head of the Fire Brigade in Santiago said that there were no victims and they needed five fire trucks and millions of gallons of water to put out the fire. The fire brigade took over two hours and although they do not yet know the cause, it is probably an electrical fault as local residents said that the power had gone out in the area shortly before the fire started.

According to witnesses the fire began shortly after the store closed as usual at midday, but the brothers refused to give details about the fire, or what had been lost.
