Haitians take 10% of Public Health budget

Over the last year the Ministry of Public Health facilities treated Haitian patients 1,085,253 times at a cost of RD$1,048,006,574, over one billion pesos.

These figures include emergencies, admissions, laboratory tests, births (both natural and caesarean), birth control, major surgery, x-rays and blood transfusions, but do not include the costs of medicines, patient transport, vaccinations and primary care services, which are estimated at an additional RD$1.92 billion.

According to data from the Planning and Development Department at the Public Health Ministry, this year the figures are expected to rise to 1,349,295 patients at a cost of RD$1,285,399,800 (almost RD$1.3 billion) which represents 10% of the Ministry budget.
