PRD breakup expected

The confrontations in the PRD have reached a deadlock that leaves no space for the conflicting factions to get together. As a result, the breakup of the party is only waiting on the proper paperwork. The only missing thing is to find out who takes the larger piece, and the most important this is who gets to keep the “brand name” called PRD. And with the name comes the summary of a history of unquestionable contributions to the public interest and at a time when the country is dominated by a single party, this is a call to play a fundamental role in guaranteeing the democratic future of Dominicans. Just now this necessary function of balance and equilibrium that the PRD faithful do not seem to know anything about, is why leading sectors and personalities have taken on the task of preventing it from being consumed by division.

Regarding the impasse at which the crisis has arrived, in which Miguel does not want to go and Mejia cannot get him out; in which “those on top cannot and those on the bottom don’t want to,” according to Lenin who characterized a (revolutionary) crisis, the explosion, the breakup of the PRD structure, can only be avoided when they agree upon a national convention, imposed from without, and based on three points:

1. Agree on an absolutely impartial commission to lead the process, in which the mediators take part and in which non-PRD personalities also form part.

2. Establish by consensus the date of the convention.

3. Clean up the membership rolls of the party, checked out and audited by experienced individuals or institutions.

Each one of these three points, in the current rivalry, are impossible to apply unless the weapons, the diatribes and the disqualifications concede space to the sectors and people who have shown interest in mediating in order to save this important asset to Dominican democracy, and preserve it with the capability and sufficient strength, and not just another abbreviation.
