Two officers, one from the Army and the other from the National Police were shot and killed in separate incidents in Moca early Sunday morning, 3 February, leading the police to pull in a dozen people for investigation.
The victims were Lieutenant Colonel Domingo Antonio Perez Paulino, 46, an inspector at the 2 May Penitentiary at the fort of the same name who was killed by 16 bullets, according to Diario Libre, and Second Lieutenant Fernando Almonte Torres, 40, from the National Police Criminal Intelligence Department, who was stationed in Moca and who was shot twice.
Colonel Jesus Cordero Paredes, the spokesman for the National Police Central Cibao Regional Command, reported that the murder of Lt. Colonel Perez Paulino occurred while the victim was passing through the Juan Lopito area of Moca in his car. Maria Cristina Santana Bueno who works for the DNCD was also wounded in this incident. The injured agent was hospitalized in the Toribio Bencosme Hospital. The National Police reported that they found several shell casings at the crime scene, as well as some documents. Meanwhile, the body of Second Lieutenant Almonte Torres of the National Police was found on a plantain farm in the Monte de la Jagua area. Both the motorcycle and his sidearm were found next to his body.
