Got salami?

Today, Tuesday 5 February the government will present the results of a new study on the content of salami, in order to establish whether the product that is sold in the country contains contaminating elements. Speaking at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Monday 4 February, Minister of Public Health Freddy Hidalgo said that the information, which said that the analysis of the processed meat product supposedly discovered that it does not contain any bacteria harmful to health, was “unofficial.”

The Minister spoke to reporters after taking part in a meeting with the Minister of the Presidency, Gustavo Montalvo, in the Mirabal Sisters Salon at the Palace. He was there to hear about the preliminary report which will be released today and in which the director of ProConsumidor, Altagracia Paulino, and the ministers of Agriculture and Industry & Commerce, Luis Ramon Rodriguez and Jose del Castillo also took part. Despite persistent questioning from reporters, Hidalgo did not specify the time or the place of the announcement, although Diario Libre learned that it would be at 4pm in Montalvo’s office.
