PRD mediation efforts stall again

All attempts to bring about a dialogue between the rival factions of the PRD appear to be stuck in as much of a deadlock as previous mediation initiatives between party president Miguel Vargas and former President Hipolito Mejia. Psychiatrist Cesar Mella, the mediator heading the latest commission given the task of establishing a dialogue, said that many sectors and personalities want to smooth the path, but problems have arisen because of the statements of both factions in the fight.

“It seems that the unfortunate statements, the insults and the short-sightedness that can be committed along this road can create hyper-sensitivity in one or the other of the leaders which blocks the atmosphere of harmony and open communication that we want to provide and that should flow properly,” he stated in a phone interview. Mella said that they are trying to create some sort of procedure that will provide a framework for the conversations.
