Case against Fernandez and Funglode processed

The National District prosecutor’s office says it has filed the complaint presented by the president of Alianza Pais against former President Leonel Fernandez and his Fundacion Global for alleged asset laundering and prevarication. The former President and Funglode were notified on Monday, 4 February to prepare their defense, as reported in Hoy. The case was filed by the Unidad de Sistema de Atencion, under prosecutor Carlos Vidal. As reported in Hoy, Guillermo Moreno is accusing Fernandez of appealing to businesses for high sums of money that were donated to the foundation. He says some of these companies were created by Fernandez himself, and directed by then-government official Felix Bautista. Bautista is now a senator for the ruling PLD party, of which Fernandez is president. Moreno filed documents to support his claim that Funglode received millions from public work contractors. He said that they made the donations in return for being awarded lucrative government contracts.

Moreno is asking the state prosecutors to request the tax declarations presented by Fernandez during his term as President. He also requests information from the commission that liquidated Baninter and the Central Bank on financial papers of Funglode with the Central Bank, and that the Tax Department issue details on the financial statements presented by Funglode.
