Police working to control lawbreakers

Interior and Police Minister Jose Ramon Fadul says that so far this month they have notified 199 businesses selling alcohol in 11 out of the 14 provinces in the Cibao region and the north of the country for violations against noise.

He said that they could be temporarily closed if they carried on violating the law. He said that the violations included breaking the law on opening hours for alcohol sales, obstruction of public roads, excessively loud music, fights, serving alcohol to minors and carrying of firearms on the premises.

He said that 83 businesses have been warned in Santiago, 18 in Puerto Plata, 18 in Nagua, 14 in Moca, and 9 in Samana. In the Province of Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) 10 were warned and a further 10 in San Francisco de Macoris received warnings, as well as 12 places selling alcohol in La Vega, 6 in Sanchez Ramirez, 5 in Monsenor Nouel (Bonao), 5 in Mao (Valverde) and 2 in Santiago Rodriguez.

Minister Fadul appealed to owners of these types of business to obey the law to avoid being closed down.
