The executive director of the Dominican Municipal Districts Association says that local governments have not received their budgets for January, due to the amendments in the tax law and the increase of RD$1 billion pesos that the government set aside for local government.
Pedro Richardson has said that the government will begin to issue the money in the next 48 hours and asked local government employees and suppliers for their patience and understanding.
He also asked the Social Security Superintendence not to apply late payment fees to the local authorities as they have not been able to make the payments that are due in the first three days of the month.
He said that the process for making the transfer had been completed and that the money would appear “any day now.” He went on to explain the process, saying that the money was transferred from the Budget Department to the Ministry of Interior and Police. From there it went to the National Accounting Office and then to the Treasury, which will deposit the money in the governmental Banco de Reservas.
He concluded by saying that everything should return to normal for the next few months.
