The 51 families who were evicted from their squatters’ settlement in Gazcue in Santo Domingo last December have now received lands in the barrio of El Mesia in the “Altos de Chavon” area of Boca Chica. Brigadier General Nelson Rosario handed over the property titles to the affected families, saying that this represented the fulfillment of the commitment made by the Chief of Police on the instructions of President Danilo Medina. Most of the new property owners asked for official help for building their homes since they do not have enough money to even begin construction on the lots. The families had been offered better deals for relocation, but held on and finally were evicted.
