In an announcement made yesterday, the head of the Federal Prosecution service in Puerto Rico, Rosa Emilia Rodriguez-Velez said that four Dominicans have been found guilty of bringing 146 kilos of cocaine and eight of heroin to the island, with a street value of more than US$3 million.
The Dominicans, named as Manuel Liriano, Jose Pena, Jonathan Martinez and Jose Ramon Vicente, tried to land the shipment on Dorado beach in the north of the island. This is a new route for drug traffickers due to the increase in surveillance by the authorities on the west coast. However the United States coastguard intercepted them some 10 kilometers from the coast.
Rodriguez-Velez said that they would be sentenced in the next few weeks.
