No more building in Los Prados

Mayor Roberto Salcedo has announced that the National District local government (ADN) has stopped awarding any new permits for building work in the whole of the Los Prados sector, until a hydrographic study has been carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and the Santo Domingo Aqueducts and Drinking Water Corporation (CAASD), in order to establish the causes of the sinkhole in Font Bernard street.

Salcedo visited the area yesterday, Tuesday 12 February and spoke to local residents and businesspeople, accompanied by technical staff from ADN and the Head of the fire Brigade, General Oscar Guillermo Garcia. He said that the Municipal Police is being posted to stop onlookers putting their lives in danger by getting too close.

He confirmed that he would take the necessary measures to solve the problem, but that he already knew that some parts of Los Prados were particularly vulnerable due to underground streams in the area. When Los Prados was built, residents were alerted that construction should only be of one floor.
