As Independence Day, 27 February, approaches, many people in Santo Domingo are getting nervous about possible changes in the nation’s bureaucracy. According to El Caribe, in areas such as the foreign service and institutions like the National Police and the Drug Control Agency (DNCD) that have yet to be touched by the new administration, speculation is rife about possible changes.
So far, President Danilo Medina has respected the employment of most of the members of the PLD Political Committee in key posts in his administration. Most Fernandez officers remained in the posts they held during the Fernandez administration. Danilo Medina has also respected the quota of jobs assigned to the PLD ally, the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), mainly in the foreign service.
While some, according to the newspaper, are anxious for change, given the good reviews received so far by the administration, the President might not be so keen to make major changes.
