Constitutional Court annuls Supreme Court decision

In what is considered a landmark case for the Dominican judiciary, the Constitutional Court has annulled a decision by the Supreme Court of Justice. The Constitutional Court was created by the 2010 Constitution. The Constitutional Court annulled a decision that had ordered the Malespin construction company to compensate Juan Alberto Pimentel who claimed that his property rights had been violated by works by the contractor in Peravia province. At the time Malespin was a public works contractor during the President Hipolito Mejia government. The case opened in the judiciary on 1 April 2002. Malespin Constructora is a major builder in the Danilo Medina administration.
