A couple from Cardiff, Wales, have launched a campaign to try and get their daughter released from prison in the Dominican Republic.
They say Nicola Reyes has been held without charge for seven months accused of killing her husband Jorge, a Dominican national. Reyes was imprisoned in Puerto Plata for supposedly running over her husband in her car.
Jeannette Clements says her daughter is innocent of murder, claiming that she struck her husband accidentally as he rode his motorbike alongside her car at night.
Nicola Reyes, who has two children now living with their grandparents in Cardiff, could face up to 30 years in prison if found guilty of her husband’s murder.
Her mother said that “she has her good days and bad days, but she’s getting more bad days now as time goes on, because we didn’t expect it to go on for this length of time”.
