The Ministry of Public Health announced that today, Thursday 21 February is the National Anti Rabies Vaccination day. The campaign is targeting a million cats and dogs across the country.
In a press conference, Rafael Schiffino, Deputy Minister of Collective Health, said that between tomorrow, Friday 22 and Sunday 24 February they would set up 8,500 sites for administering the vaccinations, staffed by veterinarians, volunteers, supervisors, coordinators and support staff.
He said that every year there are around 30,000 attacks by cats and dogs, which was why the Ministry of Public Health had joined forces with the National Anti Rabies Center to vaccinate a million animals to prevent and control rabies.
Martin Vilorio, Director of the National Anti Rabies Center called on people to be careful not to be attacked by any animal, but if they were, they should go to the nearest health center immediately.
Vilorio said that the program had more than 1,400,000 vaccinations and urged people to take their pets to be vaccinated.
The program will begin in Las Flores neighborhood in San Cristobal province tomorrow, Friday 22 February.
