Robbery at Columbus Lighthouse

Police spokesman General Maximo Baez Aybar says that several ceiling lamps, bronze plates and Chinese vases have been stolen from an exhibit in the Columbus Lighthouse.

He said that they still did not know exactly what was taken, but that the robbery occurred last Sunday, 17 February and is still being investigated, including questioning the employees at the Lighthouse.

On Wednesday afternoon, 20 February the Police announced the arrest of three men accused of the theft. So far, the authorities have recovered four lamps that had been sold to a metalwork company in Los Alcarrizos.

Last Friday, 15 February Minister of Culture Jose Antonio Rodriguez swore in writer and sociologist Mario Bonetti as the new Governor of the Lighthouse.
