The Ministry of Culture is inviting the public to a mock ceremony that will take place at the Malecon of Santo Domingo. At 6pm on Friday, 1 March the symbolic wedding of the two obelisks will be held. The Ministry says there will be a nuptial ceremony, and the palm trees near the two obelisks on the Malecon will be decorated for the occasion. The script for the “Boda de los obeliscos macho y hembra” was written by playwright Felix German.
Shortly after, a children’s carnival parade will take place with the participation of 70 groups from Santo Domingo and the provinces. This event will take place on Saturday, 2 March on the Avenida de la Salud in Mirador del Sur.
Carnival ends in Santo Domingo on Sunday, 3 March with the traditional carnival on the Malecon at 3pm.
Santo Domingo East has prepared its own carnival grand finale, with the participation of 100 groups this Sunday, 24 February along Avenida Espana as of 2pm. Salsa group Sexappeal and merengue singer Miriam Cruz will provide the entertainment.
