The use of the streets and byways inside residential areas causes chaos and affects the lives of the people who live there. The trucks and buses using these residential roads and streets have effectively lowered property values in some areas and caused a loss of business to local commercial establishments. Leonardo Lopes, the president of the Life in Condominiums Network says that as a result of the problem, even commercial values go down generating a negative impact on the lives of the people who live there. According to Listin Diario, there is also a social impact in these areas. This is being experienced in the neighborhoods of Miraflores and Gazcue and Naco in Santo Domingo, where property values have decreased due to the commercial traffic in the area. Several solutions to some of the problems are being worked out with AMET agents, and the traffic police are impounding buses that try to avoid traffic jams by going through residential areas.
