The Permanent Attention Court has ordered a year of preventive custody for singer Martha Heredia who faces drug trafficking charges. She was sent to Rafey-Women’s Prison in Santiago. The brief trial yesterday, Monday 25 February, lasted about an hour and 15 minutes according to Hoy reporter Yamira Taveras. Her lawyer, Felix Portes said that the judge went overboard and asked for the forensic evidence to be presented. Once the verdict was heard, the defendant was whisked out a side door by a team of SWAT agents assigned to protect the young singer. All of this came about once the Court of Appeals had rejected an appeal for the judge, Deyanira Mendez, to be rejected from acting in this case. The Appeals Court rejected the request and the Permanent Attention Court proceeded to order the sentence for protective custody.
