Ditches tie up traffic on Betancourt

Detours along several stretches of Romulo Betancourt Avenue in the National District are causing major traffic jams, according to El Caribe newspaper. The large mounds of dirt formed by the automatic ditch-digger used by the Santo Domingo Water and Sewage Corporation (CAASD) are also causing significant economic losses for neighboring traders, because customers have no way of reaching the stores. The kilometers of new piping being installed by the CAASD will bring much-needed water into the area, but for now the traffic mess has made the area resemble a war zone. According to the CAASD director, Alejandro Montas, the new 20-inch pipes will provide better pressure and better service.

The CAASD says works are also taking place at the intersection between Bolivar and Abraham Lincoln avenues, Cayetano Germosen Avenue, 30 de Mayo Avenue and in the Naco area.
