In a horrific crash near the Metaldom factory in Santo Domingo on Tuesday morning, 5 March, a Nissan Pathfinder traveling west to east on the 30 de Mayo section of the Malecon, hit a tree and burst into flames after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Paul Fernando Corona Paredes, a private in the Dominican Air Force, was killed in the accident, which took place close to the Nunez de Caceres overpass, as reported in El Caribe. The fire was extinguished by the Fire Department and members of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) redirected traffic. AMET spokesman Jacobo Mateo Moquete said that the driver was identified from his ID, which was found on the scene.
