The women are Baldemira Reyes Vda. Abreu, Mercedes Jorge, Juana Venecia Alvarez de Vanderhorst, Milqueya Altagracia Portes de Mota and Lillian Altagracia Brugal Paiewonsky.

President Danilo Medina will present them with their Medals of Merit on Friday 8 March, International Women’s Day, a date when the government traditionally pays homage to women who have played a fundamental role in the areas of economics, politics, social and humanitarian work, and the family.
The Presidency said that these 11 women have dedicated their lives to the good of the country and its progress. It highlighted the fact that Dominican women are increasingly contributing to the country’s development, in the public arena as well as in their private lives.
