More free zone companies

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the president of the National Council of Free Zones, Jose Del Castillo Savinon, have announced that permission has been granted for six new businesses to be established in free zones around the country, mainly in Santiago, La Romana and Santo Domingo. They are expected to create 1,009 jobs and generate US$2.2 million in foreign currency earnings with an investment of RD$90.7 million.

At the same time, they announced that permission has also been granted for a new free zone park that will involve an investment of around RD$1,600 million, generate US$1.5 million in foreign currency and create 1,226 jobs.

Del Castillo said that the decision of these new companies to invest in the Dominican Republic was the result of the economic policies being implemented by the government under the leadership of the President, Danilo Medina.

He went on to say that this was also evidence of the process of diversification that was being seen in the free zones, which now included the manufacture of electronic components, leather goods and telemarketing.
