The Ministry of Public Works says that good progress is being made on the first 2.5km stretch of the Paseo Maritimo 30 de Mayo along the Malecon in Santo Domingo. The City of Santo Domingo and the Ministry of Public Works are creating a six-meter wide seafront promenade for the enjoyment of city residents along a 4km stretch of the highway. The plan is to continue the promenade all the way to the intersection with the Port of Haina area. Renovations include the installation of 740 new benches and 328 street lamps to enhance security. Two 250m2 recreational fishing areas from the shore are being added. The Malespin engineering company is responsible for the works. Malespin project director Rigoberto Alcantara said that the work was 80% complete on the stretch between San Juan Bautista and Luperon streets, across from Centro de los Heroes.
