A report in El Dia says that public health providers are being left with “the scraps” in the distribution of health affiliates. Reporters say that “coincidentally” the highest risk cases are being allocated to the government providers, and this is becoming a “catastrophic ailment” affecting their financial health. As reported, most people over the age of 60 are being assigned to Senasa. Likewise, the other public health provider, Salud Seguro has the largest number of the former affiliates to the Dominican Social Security Institute. Gabriel del Rio, spokesman for a workers union, says that the company that makes the distribution of affiliates, Unipago is biased towards the private companies. Del Rio says that SISARIL, the Superintendence of Health and Labor Risks should intervene to prevent the distortions that are affecting the finances of the public health providers.
