Medina travels to Chavez funeral

The Presidency confirmed today, Friday 8 March that President Danilo Medina had arrived in Caracas early this morning, in time to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez.

President Medina traveled with Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo, Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta, Monte Plata Senator Charlie Mariotti, Dominican Petroleum Refinery president Felix Jimenez and the Venezuelan ambassador in the Dominican Republic, Alberto Castellar. The delegation also included Medina’s personal assistant Carlos Pared Perez, the chief of military corps Adams Caceres, and the deputy director of the National Department of Investigations Miguel Mercedes.

According to reports, most Latin American presidents will be among the 33 heads of government attending from around the world. Chavez was well known for his efforts to unify the region. Medina was scheduled to take a private flight at 6am and is expected to return later today.
