Preventive action and the implementation of specific strategies have led to a reduction in the number of violent deaths in the country during the months of January and February of this year, in comparison to the same period last year, according to the National Police. Statistics reveal that during the months of January and February 2012, there were 337 violent deaths, while during this year the number has fallen to 311. This information show an 8% reduction in violent deaths so far in 2013, which shows that the preventive measures have yielded positive results and the downward trend is likely to continue. The statistics also reflect that by the same percentage the number of people injured in violent incidents has also decreased. The Police reported that there was a 25% reduction in gender-based murders from last year. The numbers show that during January and February 2012, the total number of women murdered in the country was 32, which was reduced to 24 in the same period in 2013.
