President approves RD$74 million in credits for vegetable farmers

President Danilo Medina visited the Valley of San Juan de la Maguana over the weekend of 9-10 March and met with farmers and exporters in Las Matas de Farfan. He stated that the Dominican Republic could become the leading exporter of non-traditional vegetables with a combination of government assistance and the hard work of the farming sector. He praised the farmers’ efforts to produce non-traditional vegetables and noted that even Europeans were coming to the Dominican Republic and establishing themselves in the farming and export business. The President announced that credits would be granted to the Cluster of Exporters of these non-traditional vegetables, saying that this would enable them to expand the cultivation area and the size of the packing plant, with the aim of increasing their exports from 64 containers a month to 140 containers a month.
