The Pengbian Sang & Retro Jazz band is playing a concert tonight, 12 March at the Palacio de Bellas Artes at 8:30pm to promote their new album Jazzeando el Cancionero Dominicano.
Enjoy musical arrangements for Dominican criollas, merengues and bachatas performed as jazz, bossa nova, Latin jazz, reggae and funk. They will be playing music by Rafael Solano, Manuel Sanchez Acosta, Leonor Porcella de Brea, Luis Dias, Juan Luis Guerra and Anthony Rios, among others. Sang said the album is a tribute to the important Dominican composers.
The concert will be followed with another on Thursday, 14 March at the gardens of the Teatro Regional Cibao Santiago and on Saturday, 16 March at Plaza de Espana in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo.
Retro Jazz got its start on 23 September 2011 during a concert presented at the Fiesta Sunset Jazz, produced by Jazz en Dominicana, with the participation of the outstanding musicians. These are Laura Rivera (vocals), Jesus “Gury” Abreu (saxophones), Federico Mendez (guitar), Alvaro Dinzey (keyboard), Remy Taveras (drums) and Edgar Molina (percussion).
