The Transport Reorganization Office (Opret) has announced that it is testing the first stage of the second line of the Santo Domingo Metro every day, before its official opening, scheduled for the end of March.
The sub director of Opret, Leonel Carrasco, told Diario Libre that they were testing the line from Francisco del Rosario Sanchez station that is the easternmost point of the line, up to Maria Montez station at the extreme west, a route that has never been open to the public due to delays in the completion of stations 18, 19 and 20.
Carrasco said that the tests were part of the opening process for the Metro and are being carried out at the same time as completing the stations where work had been delayed. He said that as soon as President Danilo Medina announced that the second line of the Metro would be finished, in his speech on 27 February, work had begun immediately. He did not mention the RD$200 million that the director of Opret, engineer Diandino Pena had said was necessary for the completion of the last three stations.
Carrasco said that the final work included fitting the lights, escalators and elevators.
