Flor de Bethania Abreu presents “Crossing Niagara” (El Cruce sobre el Niagara) by Peruvian author Alonso Alegria this weekend, Friday 15, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March, at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo. The work is a winner of the Casa de las Americas award. Orestes Amador and Wilson Urena will play the main roles. Special choreographic effects are by Marianela Boan, with Irmgard Karoline Becker. Musical arrangement is by Xavier Ortiz. In the play, the Niagara falls come alive with play of lights and sound to recreate the story of tightrope walker Charles Blondin, who successfully crossed the Niagara Falls on a three-inch manila rope stretching from the US side of the falls to Canada, a total span of 2000 feet. It took him 20 minutes to cross above the Niagara River of what would be the first of eight crossings.
