First Lady greets the Pope

First Lady Candida Montilla de Medina greeted the Pope during the papal investiture in the Vatican today, Tuesday 19 March. The First Lady is leading the Dominican delegation that is attending the ceremony. Others on the delegation are administrative minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta, Dominican ambassador to the Holy See Victor Grimaldi and vice minister of Foreign Relations Jose Manuel Trullols.

Some 30 heads of state from all over the world and delegation from 132 countries are present.

As Francis will be the first Latin American pope in history, a large presence of leaders from the region is expected, including Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez and her colleagues Enrique Pena Nieto from Mexico, Dilma Rousseff from Brazil and Sebastian Pinera from Chile, as well as Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
