Graciano says government needs to get tough

Central Electoral Board (JCE) judge Rosario Graciano de los Santos says that until the government girds it loins with the sufficient courage that former President Leonel Fernandez did not possess, and carries out a census and regulates all of the foreigners who are in the Dominican Republic illegally, as required according to Law 285-04 on Immigration, there will be problems like the case of the people of Haitian descent who are claiming Dominican citizenship. She said that the only thing that will save the Dominican Republic from appearing before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is the application of the Immigration Regulation so that everyone who is here illegally may fix their status and that of their children. She said: “This is the courage that they have to have… and until they do, they are going to have this situation (with the IACHR).”
