Earthquake felt in Samana

The Seismology Institute at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo announced that an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale, some 22 kilometers north of Samana, was recorded at 11 o’clock yesterday morning, Tuesday 19 March.

Seismic analyst Andres Moreta said that it was 38 kilometers deep and was felt not only in the immediate area but also in Santiago, Santo Domingo and Nagua as well as other cities around the country. Initial reports say there was no damage.

Yet the USGS of the US government recorded the intensity at magnitude 3.6, with the epicenter 18 kms northeast of Las Terrenas, Samana.
