President Danilo Medina has congratulated the Dominican team for its victory in the World Baseball Championships, using his own election campaign slogan.
“Dominican Republic, doing what has never been done before; winning the World Championships” he said via the Twitter social network. He went on to congratulate the players and Tony Pena and Moises Rojas Alou for their great achievement.
Medina also congratulated Puerto Rico and the other 14 countries that played in the tournament.
As soon as the game was over, the Governor of Puerto Rico, Alejandro Garcia Padilla called President Medina to congratulate him. Garcia said that he was very happy that the title that would now stay in the Caribbean.
According to news reports, President Medina left the Presidential Palace early to watch the game last night, Tuesday 19 March.
