President Danilo Medina, accompanied by high-ranking military and police officials, was in Azua yesterday, Tuesday 19 March to preside over the commemorative celebrations of the 169th anniversary of the Battle of the 19 March. The Battle of 19 March 1844 took place in Azua between the Dominican troops led by General Pedro Santana and Haitian troops led by the Haitian president, Charles Herard Aine. The commemorative events included a military parade and display.
