Long Night of the Museums

Several museums in the Dominican Republic are open all day today, Friday 22 March as part of the celebration of the Spring Long Night of the Museums. The scheduled events for the Colonial City, Santo Domingo are:

Centro de Inventario de Bienes Culturales. Calle Hostos at the corner of General Luperon. Display about Easter and the meaning of its rites.

Museo Alcazar de Colon. Plaza de Espana. Free tours from 9am to 12 midnight. Magic show, recycling exhibition, fashion show, doll-making and mask-making workshop, flower arrangement workshop. 4-5pm. Concert. 5-12 midnight, Baile de Mascaras.

Fortaleza de Santo Domingo. Calle Las Damas. Free tours from 9am to 12 midnight. 10am. Discussion on the Monument. 7pm, performance of the play, “Una casa embrujada,” with the Teatro La Bartola. 8pm. Performance by the Sangre Mulata folk dance group.

Museo de las Casas Reales. Calle Mercedes at the corner of Las Damas. Free tours from 9am to 12 midnight. 7pm. Light show. 6-9pm. Mini zoo.

Direccion Nacional de Folklore (Dinafolk). Calle Vicente Celestino Duarte. Exhibitions from 9am to 12 midnight. 2pm. Workshop on gaga hat-making. 4pm. Dance workshop. 5:30pm. Workshop on producing music for gaga by Edis Sanchez. 7pm. Talk on “La habichuela con dulce,” the traditional Dominican sweet bean dish that is made for Easter and its identification with Dominican culture. 9pm. Gaga parade in the Colonial City. 10pm. Performance by a gaga group.

Centro de la Imagen. Calle Arzobispo Merino 464. 9am to 12 midnight: Exhibition: Vias del Perdon.

Museo de la Familia Dominicana. Calle Padre Billini at the corner with Merino. 9am to 12 midnight. Models representing 19th century characters. 4-7pm. Painting faces, with cotton candy and popcorn for all the family. 8pm. Performance of perico ripiao and the Ministry of Tourism folk dancing group.

Centro Cultural de las Telecomunicaciones. Calle Isabel la Catolica. Duarte Bicentennial Exhibition. 10pm performance of Nekrasov, by the Teatro La Bartola. 5 to 7pm. Gastronomic Festival.

Trampolin Children’s Museum. Calle Las Damas. Open from 10 am to 1pm, and then from 6pm to 12 midnight.

Palacio Consistorial. Calle Arz.Merino at the corner of El Conde, Colonial City. 9am to 12 midnight, visiting the murals of Vela Zanetti.

Casa de Teatro. 10pm. Chuchy Mulens’ Sabado x Sabado. Exhibition of the award-winning paintings in the Casa de Teatro contest. Exhibition of 40 ceramic tiles and two sculptures by Wilfredo Torres.
