The Association of Sports Writers of Santo Domingo has voted two-time Olympic gold medallist Felix Sanchez their Athlete of the Year for 2012. Sanchez said he received the award with “pride and humility,” as reported in El Dia. He called on young people to study and practice more sports. Boxers Javier Fortuna and Katty Pamela Wilson, tennis player Victor Estrella, Alex Prats and Aumi Guerrero in bowling, Winnifer Fernandez and Brenda Castillo in bowling and runner Luguelin Santos also received awards. During the event the Dominican team that won the World Baseball Classic championship was recognized.
