A 44-year old Dominican immigrant won the fourth largest payout ever in the Powerball Lottery in the United States last weekend. Pedro Quezada won US$338 million dollars. If he decides to take a single payout, he will receive US$221 million and after taxes he will have US$152 million in cash. According to the local newspapers, Quezada, who lives in Passaic, New Jersey, told reporters from the Bergen Record that “he was very happy.” The press was waiting for Quezada in the liquor store where he bought the winning ticket, the only one that picked all six numbers including the Powerball. His wife, Ines Sanchez, told the newspaper that Quezada had called her on Monday afternoon, 25 March to tell her the news. “I still can’t believe it,” she said. “We never expected it but we thank God.” The family lives in an apartment in Passaic. The neighbors were all happy that one of “theirs” was so lucky. The family was described as “hardworking” by their neighbors. Quezada is a father of five who has owned the Apple Deli and Grocery on Eighth Street since 2006.
