President Danilo Medina says that he would back the Dominican Republic hosting a part of the fourth World Baseball Classic in 2017.
The President stressed however that hosting the event would require the approval of all the political parties, since he will be leaving office in August 2016.
Yesterday, Monday 25 March at the Presidential Palace he met team general manager Moises Rojas Alou, Robinson Cano (MVP of the Classic) and other members of the winning baseball team, who visited him with Minister of Sports Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal.
Smiling from ear-to-ear, the President appeared delighted at the sight of the Tiffany-made trophy that accredits the Dominican Republic as the Champion of the World Baseball Classic 2013.
Dominican Baseball Federation president Hector (Tito) Pereyra said that when the Major League Baseball season is over, the federation will bring the team together and tour the whole country with the trophy so that everyone can get a glimpse of their champions. Cano received a two-day permission from the New York Yankees for the meeting with President Medina.
